Studies on the Detoxicating Effect of D-penicillamine and (Glycyrrhizae Radix Ext in Lead Poisoning

Abstract
|

|
5 mg/ml and 2 mg/ml of lead acetate solution were intraperitoneally to male rats. Water extracts of Glycyrrhizae Radix were orally administered and D-penicillamine was LP. injected to the same rats as potential antidotes.
The urine contents of 6-aminolevulinic acid (ALA) were measured by UV spectrometry according to Wada method. It was found that ALA contents in the urine were increased by. LP. injection of Pb(Ac)2 and were significantly decreased by oral administration of 5 ml of the water extract of Glycyrrhizae Radix (each 50g in 1ℓ of water) and LP. injection of 5mg/ 1 ml of D-penicillamine. From this result, it is believed that water extract of Glycyrrhiza Radix and D-penicillamine can be used as potential antidotes in the treatment of lead poisoning.
